You promised your child a trip to the toy store. Maybe as a reward. Maybe as a bribe. Maybe because you were tired and it was easier than saying no.

 

Your child asked a question. Or you found something on their browser history. Or the school sent home a permission slip for the new health curriculum. Or they walked in on something they shouldn't have. Or they're going to a sleepover and you realized, with sudden horror, that they don't know anything.

Your teenager said they were sleeping at a friend's house. You believed them. Why wouldn't you? They've never given you a reason not to trust them.
